Where is Gora near Sodrazica?

Gora near Sodražica is located about 50 kilometers south of Ljubljana. The road to Gora intersects the main road connecting Sodra žica, Hrib, and Loški Potok. It consists of 5 settlements: Kržeti, Betonovo, Petrinci, Kracali, and Janeži. The region is about 800 meters above sea level, and at present includes 72 houses and about 150 inhabitants. During Magdalena's time (19th century) there were approximately 600 inhabitants. The largest village is Petrinci, which lies on the slope below the Maria of the Snows Church. In the immediate vicinity is Janeži – the birth village of Magdalena Gornik.

Gora near Sodražica is an independent parish and one of the smallest in Slovenia. Today it is under the pastor of the Sodražica church, Fr. Franc Bizjak. The parish church, Maria of the Snows, stands on the hill above the village of Petrinci and is 858 meters above sea level. Surrounding three sides of the church is the cemetery where Magdalena also lies in rest.
